The British Association of Dermatologists Working Group have produced a template letter to accompany specials prescriptions.

09/01/2017 - Electronic Prescriptions Automatic Replacement

Some computer systems are automatically replacing an imperial measurement into a decimal.

For example converting Dermacolor DM 1½ to DM 1.5 which is then rejected at the prescription counter as not being available.

May we suggest you include both imperial and decimal with the hope that the patient will receive their correct skin camouflage colour.

Adult Body Image Survey - Centre for Appearance Research (Bristol) need your help...

Researchers at the Centre for Appearance Research are conducting a body image survey of adults over the age of 18 and we would like to invite you to take part.

This online survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Any information you provide will be treated as confidential and respondents will not be named or identified in any outputs. This research has been given ethical approval by the University of the West of England in Bristol, UK.

When completing the survey, you will have the option to be entered into a prize draw with the chance of winning online shopping vouchers.  The draw will be made in April 2016.

13/03/2015 - Covermark adds 12 new shades to it's Classic Camouflage range

From 1st April 2015, Derma UK Ltd, the UK distributors of Covermark have increased the number of shades available in the range to 22 colours.

All Covermark shades will be available for NHS reimbursement on a doctor’s prescription. For those people wishing to purchase Covermark, the lines are held by all major pharmaceutical wholesalers, so any pharmacy should be able to order in a the correct shade for the following day.

15/10/2014 - School Photo Consent Form

A BASC Trustee has informed us that her grandchild's primary school's photographer's consent form asked if the parent wanted any "airbrushing" done to the photograph. We have highlighted this comment to Changing Faces and the Skin Camouflage Network, who were unaware and thank us for bringing it to their attention. They are joining us in challenging this disturbing trend, but to enable us to understand how widespread this may be, we would be interested to know if you have encountered such a statement on a school photograph consent form, and was this aimed at primary or secondary aged children?.

The history of McIndoe and BASC is well established and we are delighted and honoured that the McIndoe Memorial Statue will be unveiled by HRH The Princess Royal on Monday 9th June at approximately 1.20pm.

19/05/2014 - RCN Indemnity Scheme

The Royal College of Nursing are making changes to their indemnity scheme. This will affect aesthetic practices, including skin camouflage.
Because we only train professionals, we immediately requested they reconsider for BASC graduates; their response is below;

"Having discussed your case with colleagues in the Nursing team they are in agreement with you that skin camouflage should not be classified under aesthetic practice. However, given the changes to the indemnity scheme coming into effect in July we feel it might still be helpful to signpost participants to the RCN website for the current position on RCN indemnity."

18/11/2013 - Stop teaching sunbed use

Our 12 year campaign for the Beauty Industry to stop teaching "sunbed" use has finally met with success!

We are delighted to report, that we have just heard from HABIA...

"At this present time we do have UV tanning as an optional unit in our NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy Qualifications. This will be reviewed next year and will be removed from the structure. We have already advised and will continue to advise the Awarding Organisations not to include UV tanning in any future qualifications structures."

It is with great sadness we report the death of our patron, Peter Lapsley. We first met this amazing man when the Skin Care Campaign began. His expertise, knowledge and advice was always supportive, and given with a sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. He will be greatly missed and be impossible to replace. Our condolences to all his family, friends and colleagues.
